I get asked a lot, “How has Glee inspired you to do this show?” In the past couple of months I have been working hard on a project that holds near and dear to my beat making heart called “Remixed” on Jon Chu’s Dance Lifestyle channel “DS2DIO” (pronounced D-Studio) I have been a fan of music even before I knew how to do the two-step. I always wondered why dancers were always in the background even though they were putting the same amount of effort as the artist or musicians. Shouldn’t they all be in the same level since they are all creating art in their own special way? This has stuck with me ever since then and I’ve always wanted to showcase that when the right time came along. Being on Glee has helped me realize the power of music and dance and the effect it can have on people’s lives. With the right combination, anything is possible and can lead to some extraordinary outcomes.
With the show “Remixed” I wanted to couple up a talented musician/singer and an amazing dancer and have them collaborate on a one of a kind stage performance. Music appreciates dance and dance appreciates music but this would be a moment where artists can tell their stories and dive into a new world of inspiration between the two. My hope is for “Remixed” to remix peoples perception of music and dance and spark conversation or better yet, inspire people to create more remixes with art. Even people who don’t dance or feel as if they don’t have a single rhythm in their bones should not feel like they aren’t allowed to. Remix it so it makes you feel comfortable whether it’s throwing on your favorite record and move your body to the music in your bedroom. If it makes you feel something, then why not? Movement is meant to move you. Emotionally or physically. A simple finger tap or a giant leap off the ground, as the world famous shoe company reminds us in their ads, just do it.
