Shane Harper is a triple threat and climbing the ladder of success as an actor, singer-songwriter and a dancer.
As well as starring as Spencer Walsh in Disney Channel's Good Luck Charlie, Shane is also making waves with his music. Recently he's released new EP Dancin' In The Rain and a single of the same name.
We caught up with Shane to find out about his music, talk about his career so far and find out when he's heading over to the UK.
How are you today? What’s going on?
I'm just rehearsing with the band to get ready for shows we have over the next few months.
You’ve just released your new single ‘Dancin’ In The Rain’. Tell us all about it.
Dancin' in the Rain is a pretty special song for me because it was inspired by one of my favorite musicals, Singing in the Rain. I'm a dancer as well, so anytime you can incorporate dancing, I'm into that!
The track is taken from your EP of the same name. What can we expect from that?
My EP is a little diverse and people can expect to begin to see how I am hopefully growing as a writer and an artist. I also have a really fun 80's cover on the EP called, "Your Love", which tends to be a big hit with the parents of my fans as well. lol
We hear that you’ll supporting Carly Rae Jepsen at the L.A. County Fair. How did that come about and what can we expect from your set?
I got that amazing gig from my booking agent at WME, David Levine. I will be doing a 40 minute set, so I'll for sure do all of the favorites from my album and EP and a few covers also. It will be a fun night!
You’ve been releasing some acoustic covers on YouTube, mostly recently your version of Katy Perry’s ‘Wide Awake’. How do you choose which songs to cover and what’s the reaction been like?
It's interesting because people seem to respond well to the covers. I choose a song that I like, of course, and also one that I think will sound good with my voice. I'm not interested in changing up the song too much, but I still want to give it my own vibe.
Tell us what you’re like in the studio. Are you very hands-on or do you like strong direction?
I see myself as being very much a part of the creative process in the studio, but I want to learn from everyone I work with as well.
We notice you’re an active Tweeter. What’s the fan support like through your social media channels?
Seriously, my fans are so sweet, and supportive. I know that every artist says that, but the special thing about these fans is that they are all about the music. It's low drama on my social networking sites, and I really like that.
You’re not just a singer. You’re a dancer and an actor too. How do you manage to juggle all of your passions?
I don't necessarily see it as juggling those different aspects of the performing arts, because it's just who I am. I started in musical theater when I was nine, so I always did all 3 things. In essence, you are just expressing the human experience through each form, and I feel blessed that this is what I get to do.
When will you be heading to the UK to promote your music?
I absolutely love it there, and I can't tell you how I excited I will be when I get the call that I am doing a tour there!
What else do you have coming up this year that we need to look out for?
Currently I am in the studio writing new music. Season 3 of Good Luck Charlie will have alot more of my character Spencer throughout the rest of the year, and maybe even some music incorporated into one of the episodes! You never know!
'Dancin' In The Rain' and the EP of the same name are available now.
