Analysis of the current situation and future prospects of
Broadband Access Network technology
Abstract
This paper starts with an introduction of the concept of
Broadband Access Network, with special attention focusing on several prevailing
technologies of network accessing and their systematic structure, including
xDSL Access, Wireless Access and Fiber Access, etc. The paper briefly analyzes
the characteristics of each technology as well. This paper then shifts to
analyze the development of Broadband Access Network and concludes that Fiber
Access is the future dominating access option. Finally, it articulates that
different fiber access technologies optimally apply to unique occasions:
point-to-point broadband fiber system works best for enterprises; digital
circular loop carrying system suits during the transition period from
traditional dial-up to broadband network; point-to-point broadband active
Ethernet fiber-optic system applies best in region with low customer density;
point-to-point broadband multipoint passive fiber system is most suitable for
recently built or renovated areas with concentrated users. In future, national
Broadband Access Network technology can surpass APON, BPON and EPON phases and
begins with point-to-point broadband Ethernet fiber optic system and GEPON, or
even swiftly transits to GPON stage.
