July solo tour: Pittsburgh, Buffalo, New England, Charlotte, here I come...

Hello ！
Happy June. If you're a newly minted graduate, high five!
I got to perform on my front porch for Water Hill Music Fest the day after graduating from the University of Michigan (figured I'd get some additional mileage out of the cap and gown). It was a fine way to celebrate three wonderful years in Ann Arbor, before I moved my worldly possessions to Detroit.

You can listen to my Water Hill set on archive.org thanks to Rob Hoffman, who alsowrote a blog about the performance. I think the Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine" / Eminem's "Lose Yourself" mashup on the looper went particularly well that day.

SUMMER SOLO TOUR JULY 9-20
I'm going on the road again in a few weeks! Excited to become a touring musician again, and to say hello to some beautiful cities and venues. We've added North Carolina to the July run—thanks to Chris and Mary Sue Moore for putting the beautiful McGlohon Theater in Charlotte on the itinerary.
These will be solo sets, with the multi-talented Alex Wong opening the shows; we'll surely join each other on a song or two as well.
9 Jul: Pittsburgh PA – Club Cafe
10 Jul: Buffalo NY – Ninth Ward @ Babeville
11 Jul: S Burlington VT – Higher Ground
12 Jul: Natick MA – Center for the Arts
13 Jul: Ogunquit ME – Jonathan’s
14 Jul: Londonderry NH – Tupelo Music Hall
20 Jul: Charlotte NC – McGlohon Theater **NEW**
The new album trio tour kicks off in August and we'll be traveling all over the U.S. (and parts of Europe) through December. Chances are we're coming near you, so make sure to search for the name of your city on viennateng.com/shows!

NEW ALBUM PROGRESS
We're done recording! Still mixing and mastering left to go, but all previously lyric-less songs have words, all instruments and ideas have been nudged into place, and we had a rollicking good time doing it. In our multi-tasking lives, it's a rare treat to focus on just one thing for any length of time; when that one thing is making something new to share with the world, the privilege of it is breathtaking.
More than once I stepped out of the studio, into a firefly-lit humid Nashville evening, and thought: this is happiness. And you—reading this email, listening to the music I've made before, curious to hear what's next—are the reason I get to spend my time this way. My gratitude is immeasurable.

Here are the lyrics of the song we finished on the last day—the duet of sorts that I talked about in the latter half of songwriting diary no. 2. I wrote some of the words just hours before recording the vocals, and felt pretty nervous about committing the thing to tape so immediately. But it's turned out to be one of my favorites. Many thanks to Glen Phillips for supplying some of the best phrases here.
