This is NEWS Plus Special English.
The major city of Guangzhou in southern China has closed its live poultry markets to halt the spread of the H7N9 strain of bird flu.
The two-week closure lasts through February, 28 Friday.
Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong Province, is one of the hardest-hit areas in China's latest bird flu outbreak.
More than 60 cases and over a dozen deaths have been reported in the province.
Local health departments say the virus is hard to catch and most cases have been linked to contact with poultry.
Almost 130 cases were reported nationwide in January.
The market closures add to disease-control measures that have included the mass slaughter of chickens and other poultry on the Chinese mainland and in Hong Kong.
Shanghai in China's east imposed a three-month moratorium on live poultry sales in January. Zhejiang province south of Shanghai has suspended poultry trading.

2 billion yuan, or about 330 million U.S. dollars will be invested over the next five years to help develop Shapotou, a vast desert area in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
The money will be spent on constructing tourist service centers, business districts, themed hotels as well as restaurants.

A framework has been signed by the local government and the China National Travel Service's Hong Kong branch, the country's largest travel group.
Officials say this project is a step toward high-quality tourism in China.
The Shapotou area lies in the southeast of the Tengger Desert. The area boasts a diverse landscape of sand, rivers, mountains and oasis.

The hotel is scheduled to open by early 2017.
New initiatives in the following years include a brand new night-time spectacular called "Disney Paint the Night" later this year, 10th anniversary celebrations next year, and a new themed area based on Marvel's Iron Man franchise in late 2016.

The DNA of a baby boy who was buried in Montana in the U.S. 12,600 years ago has been recovered.
The DNA has provided new indications of the ancient roots of today's native American and other native peoples of the Americas.
It's the oldest genome ever recovered from the New World.
Scientists say the boy was part of an ancient culture which existed in North America from about 13,000 years ago to about 12,600 years ago.
The Clovis culture is named for an archaeological site near Clovis in northern Montana.
The boy's genome shows his people were direct ancestors of many of today's native peoples in the Americas. He was more closely related to those in Central and South America than to those in Canada.
Scientists say some Native Americans are direct descendants, and others are closely related.
The DNA also indicates the boy's ancestors came from Asia, supporting the standard idea of ancient migration to the Americas by way of a land bridge that disappeared long ago.
The burial site, northeast of Livingston in Montana, is the only burial known from the Clovis culture. The boy was between 1 year and 18 months old when he died for an unknown reason.

Heimlich says thousands of deaths reported annually from choking prompted him to seek a solution in 1972.
By 1974, Heimlich knew he needed to get the maneuver to the public as soon as possible to save lives.
He appeared on radio and television shows and started hearing from people who had used the maneuver or been saved by it.
The maneuver made headlines again this month. Clint Eastwood was attending a golf event in Monterey, California, when the 83-year-old actor saw the tournament director choking on a piece of cheese and successfully performed the technique.
Heimlich says the best thing about it is that it allows anyone to save a life.
Anne Jutt of Mason, a Cincinnati suburb, says Heimlich will always be a hero to her family. She used the maneuver last spring when her 6-year-old son was choking on a cherry tomato.
Jutt says she was scared of hurting him, but he was starting to get limp. She put everything she had into it, and the tomato flew out like a bullet.
Heimlich says the maneuver is very effective when used correctly.
But he does not approve of American Red Cross guidelines calling for back blows followed by abdominal thrusts in choking cases that don't involve infants or unconscious victims.
Red Cross officials say evidence shows using multiple methods can be more effective, but Heimlich says blows can drive obstructions deeper into a windpipe.

The American Heart Association backs abdominal thrusts.
Heimlich now lives in an assisted-living facility but responds to emails and letters about his work and makes guest appearances with the Heimlich Heroes program.
The program designed to teach young people how to use the Heimlich maneuver allows him to still pursue his passion for saving lives.
