Han Geng started his singing career as the only Chinese member of Super Junior in 2005. At the end of 2009 he announced that he would return to China for his solo singing career. His two albums, "Geng's Heart" and "Cold Night", earned him a number of awards. He was the first Chines singer who won MTV Europe Music Awards and American Kid's choice Awards. His debut in his first film “My Kingdom” in 2010 was widely lauded and then the roles he performed in “So Young” and “Ex Files” were also remarkable. In 2014 he acted in the Hollywood film“Transformers 4” and began expanding his acting career internationally.

The past 10 years have seen his enormous changes. But he still says: “I have not changed, and I am still the one I used to be.”

Two years ago, he was 28 years old; two years later, he has been over 30 years old when interviewed again by us. Two thousand years ago, Confucius told his students: “At fifteen I set my heart upon learning. At thirty, I planted my feet firm upon the ground.” He started learning even earlier. He left his hometown for Beijing to learn dancing at 12. Before the age of 20, he went to Korea and started a new chapter in his life. So his success came earlier than most people.
I was wondering if the man, who was over 30 years old and adored by a large number of fans, had changed yet. While seeing me again, he joked: “Don’t need to interview again, you have known me a lot!” Having chatted with him, I discovered that he really had not changed much.
It so happened that he had just completed his work in his maiden film “My Kingdom” when the first interview was conducted. He could not conceal his excitement when asked about the film. The second interview took place in HongKong when he was there promoting their film “SoYoung” with Zhao Wei. The latest interview was conducted when his acting in his third film "Ex File" was successfully responded by the box office and accepted by the audience and the market. As far as I am concerned, he is just an actor. In my first interview with him I was impressed with what he said: “I really want acting.”
In his early years, because of all sorts of chances, Han Geng who studied dancing had a chance to be a singer in Korea. He was mobbed by fans and surrounded with flowers, applauses, shrieks and screams. But he was not as happy as expected in his later times in Korea after he became popular. “After all acting is my major, I actually want to be an actor.” Since he came back home, he had been waiting for the chance until he was chosen to be the male leading role in his first film in 2011.

In the movie “My Kingdom”, Meng Erkui was a big challenge for Han Geng who got a chance in movie for the first time. He recalled: “Three months before coming into the cast, I started to learn Peking Opera with a teacher. I learned spears and knives and I wanted to let everyone know that I could play martial art, could act, and I was not a vase-idol through this movie.”When he evaluated his performance in “My Kingdom”, he felt that sometimes he couldn’t control himself suitably in this movie. But as a film newcomer, he was enough to let everyone see his unlimited potential in performing.
Questioned by lots of people as a “fan movie”, this film finally managed to open the path of film for Han Geng because of each considered “idol” actor's effort, . Perhaps it was toughto gain the chance, he acted extraordinarily cautious in his acting road. Just as he elected“MyKingdom” from more than70 plays as his screen debut, next the decisions of choosing what kind of screenplays, starred what kind of roles, and cooperate with what kind of people cannot be made easily.
In2 013, Zhao Wei, director of her debut “So Young”, found Han Geng and let him play the role of Lin Jing. This role, only few lines but a lot of difficult psychological dramas, was also a large challenge for him, who has just shot one movie before. But thinking of cooperating with experienced Zhao Wei and Stanley Kwan and learning a lot of things from seniors, he accepted the play of “So Young”. Nevertheless this time, in terms of performance or at the box office, his film road was on a new level.
Han Geng chose the totally different style and type once again for his third movie. He said: “ ‘EX Files’ was a film shot with friends, so I felt more open. If changed with other director that I was not too familiar with, everything would also changed a lot.” Perhaps, working with acquainted director and actors is one reason, but after experiences in two plays, his acting is obviously more freely and more handy. “Sometimes, we have finished one day’s shooting, if it was not dark yet and we were not tired, thus, we would started to think about shooting something else. Then brainstormed some new plots on scene to play. I did not expect the effect is very good.” In this play, he not only harvested growth, but also gained happiness. For him, there is nothing happier than working happily.
Everything is hard in the beginning. When his film road is on the right track, it opens the floodgate for him. Han Geng is skilled in different types of roles. Cooperating with Hollywood, playing in “Transformers 4”, shotting “Seek McCarteny” in Tibet Provence and Paris, at present he goes to South Korea for filming a new play.

For the first time, I realized my own dream.” Han Geng would never forget the moment he showed himself in front of the public as an actor. When asked if there would be a sense of excitement as then while walking on the red carpet again, he said firmly: “Of course! For every film is different, I look forward to the reaction of the audience every time!”

Someday in the near future, he is quite possible to become the one on the earth with the longest span of the vertical dimension.

On knowing the plan where we ordinary people have the chance travelling into the space, he contacted the sponsor and they soon chimed in easily. Like singing and staring in the TV and film works, he himself explained that he just wanted to realize his dreams and prove himself by making efforts and attempts. Then he immediately went to have his hair cut short and join the training camp with the identity of a ordinary Chinese after passing a series of tests.
“The organizers of thiscampaign selected over a hundred people in more than 60 countries all over the world. Several people lived in a simple and crude house and slept together on one big bed. Each day we were trained to adapt in zero-gravity and super-gravity environment. In addition, we also accepted another 9 physical fitness trainings, including rock climbing, creeping forward and going forward in pipes. We all became torn out and dirty all over.” Han Geng reeled off his training days for us. From his talking, we can easily imagine how tough and intensive the training was. The selection was even more cruel. But he found pleasure in it. “We will start our journey to the space at the end of this year or at the very beginning of next year.” He told us. On mentioning his oncoming journey to the space, he shows overwhelming excitement.
Han Geng has been invited to participate in a TV programme where famous stars competed in diving competition. He says: “In the very beginning I think I am quite ok and will do well because I swim quite well. In addition, I once learned the back flip and other similar skills in my previous learning of dancing. But the first time when I stand on the diving platform, I came to realize things were quite different from my imagination, feeling very nervous and my legs becoming weak. It’s a sport calling for great courage and bravery and thus not all people manage to do it.” After 13 courses of training and practicing, he could already stand on the diving platform calmly and bravely and finish the competitions successfully. “As long as you are able to do back flip, you will feel sense of fulfillment on the moment you jump into the water.”
Han Geng still insists on arranging a-month-long holiday for himself every year with busy work and tight schedule. During his holidays, he will be on their crazy journey of adventure togetherwith all his fellow team members. Last year, they went to parachuting and diving in the sea in Hawaii and skiing on the mountains in Japan. This year, after enjoyed his birthday in South Korea, he left for Belau along with a few friends, a country belonging to Oceania, the main purpose of their journey to Belau is still playing in the water. But different from the previous diving and snorkeling only, this time he has acquired his diving license. “Next day we went into the sea with about 20 or 30 meters depth. I still remember quite clearly the huge waves and spray. We found large number of rocks around us. This can be really dangerous but thrilling.” He describes excitedly.
When asked about the reason why he learned for the diving license, he says: “That’s because I am going up high into the outer space soon and this inspires me to go down deep into the sea. Those people who have gone up high into the sky may not always have gone down deep into the sea and vice versa. I am eager to be the one who have achieved the both. Hahahaha!”
