Directions:The following paragraphs are given in a wrong order. For Questions41—45, you are required toreorganize these paragraphs into a coherent article by choosing from the list A—E to fill in each numbered box. The first and the last paragraphshave been placed for you in Boxes. Mark your answers on ANSWER SHEET 1. (10 points)
[A] “I just don*t know how to motivate themto do a better job. We*re in a budget crunch and I have absolutely no financialrewards at my disposal. In fact, we*ll probably have tolay some people off in the near future. It*s hard for me to make the job interestingand challenging because it isn*t — it*s boring, routine paperwork, and there isn*t much youcan do about it.
[B] “Finally, Ican*t say to them that their promotions will hinge on the excellence of theirpaperwork. First of all, they know it*s not true. Iftheir performance is adequate, most are more likely toget promoted just by staying on the force a certain number of years than forsome specific outstanding act. Second, they weretrained to do the job they do out in the streets, notto fill out forms. All through their career it is the arrests and interventionsthat get noticed.
[C] “I*ve got a real problem with myofficers. They come on the force as young, inexperienced men, and we send them out on the street, either in cars or on a beat. They seem to like the contact theyhave with the public, the action involved in crimeprevention, and the apprehension of criminals. Theyalso like helping people out at fires, accidents, and other emergencies.
[D] “Some people have suggested a number ofthings like using conviction records as a performance criterion. However, we know that*s not fair — too many otherthings are involved. Bad paperwork increases the chance that you lose in court, but good paperwork doesn*t necessarily mean you*ll win. We triedsetting up team competitions based on the excellence of the reports, but the guys caught on to that pretty quickly. No one was gettingany type of reward for winning the competition, andthey figured why should they labor when there was no payoff.
[E] “The problem occurs when they get backto the station. They hate to do the paperwork, andbecause they dislike it, the job is frequently put offor done inadequately. This lack of attention hurts us later on when we get tocourt. We need clear, factual reports. They must behighly detailed and unambiguous. As soon as one part of a report is shown to beinadequate or incorrect, the rest of the report issuspect. Poor reporting probably causes us to lose more cases than any otherfactor.
[F] “So I just don*t know what to do. I*vebeen groping in the dark in a number of years. And I hope that this seminarwill shed some light on this problem of mine and help me out in my future work.”
[G] A large metropolitan city government was putting on a number ofseminars for administrators, managers and/or executivesof various departments throughout the city. At one of these sessions the topicto be discussed was motivation - how we can get publicservants motivated to do a good job. The difficulty of a police captain becamethe central focus of the discussion.
      Order:
    G-41____-42____-43____-44____-45____-F

对于G来说,关键词为government, motivation, job, difficulty;对于F来说,关键词为problem, dark, help, future work。
        A. motivate,do a better job,paper work
        B. finally,excellence of their paperwork,
        C. problem,officer,helping
        D. suggested,however,excellence of the reports
        E. problem,paper work,poor reporting

          Directions:
Thefollowing paragraphs are given in a wrong order. For Questions 41-45, you arerequired to reorganize into a coherent text by choosing from the list A-G andfilling them into the numbered boxes .Paragraphs A and E have been correctlyplaced. Mark your answers on the ANSWER SHEET.(10points)
[A]Some archaeological sites have always been easily observable—for example, theParthenon in Athens, Greece; the pyramids of Giza in Egypt; and the megalithsof Stonehenge in southern England. But these sites are exceptions to the norm. Most archaeological sites have been located by means of careful searching, while many others have been discovered by accident. Olduvai Gorge, fell intoits deep valley in 1911.Thousands of Aztec artifacts came to light during thedigging of the Mexico City subway in the 1970s.
[B]In another case, American archaeologists Rene million and George Cowgill spentyears systematically mapping the entire city of Teotihuacan in the valley ofMexico near what is now Mexico City .at its peak around AD 600, this city wasone of the largest human settlements in the word. The researchers mapped notonly the city’s vast and ornate ceremonial areas, but also hundreds of simplerapartment complexes where common people lived.
[C]How do archaeologists know where to find what they are looking for when thereis nothing visible on the surface of the ground? Typically, they survey andsample (make test excavations on) large areas of terrain to determine whereexcavation will yield useful information. Surveys and test samples have alsobecome important for understanding the larger landscapes that containarchaeological sites.
[D]Surveys can cover a single large settlement or entire landscapes.in one case, many researchers working around the ancient Maya city of Copán, Honduras, havelocated hundreds of small rural village and individual dwellings by usingaerial photographs and by making surveys on foot. The resulting settlement mapsshow how the distribution and density of the rural population around the citychanged dramatically between AD500 and 850, when Copán collapsed.
[E]To find their sites, archaeologists today rely heavily on systematic surveymethods and a variety of high-technology tools and techniques. Airbonetechnologies, such as different types of radar and photographic equipmentcarried by airplanes or spacecraft, allow archaeologists to learn about whatlies beneath the ground without digging. Aerial surveys locate general areas ofinterest or larger buried features, such as ancient buildings or fields.
[F]Most archaeological sites, however, are discovered by archaeologists who haveset out to look for them. Such searches can take years. British archaeologistHoward Carter knew that the tomb of the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamum existed frominformation found in other sites. Carter sifted through rubble in the Valley ofthe King for seven years before he located the tomb in 1922. In the late 1800sBritish archaeologist Sir Arthur Eyan combed antique dealers’ stores in Athens,Greece. He was searching for thing engraved seals attributed to the ancientMycenaean culture that dominated Greece from the 1400s to 1200s BC. Evas’sinterpretations of those engravings eventually led them to find the Minoanpalace at Knossos on the island of Crete, in 1900.
[G]Ground surveys allow archaeologists to pinpoint the places where digs will besuccessful. Most ground surveys involve a lot of walking, looking for surfaceclues such as small fragments of pottery. They often include a certain amountsof digging to test for buried materials at selected points across a landscape.Archaeologists also may locate buried remains by using such technologies asground radar, magnetic-field recording, and metal detector. Archaeologistscommonly use computers to map sites and the landscapes around sites. Two andthree-dimensional maps are helpful tools in planning excavations, illustratinghow sites look, and presenting the results of archaeological research.
          41 - A - 42 -E - 43 - 44 - 45

            A. archaeological sites, careful searching, accident
            E. their sites, archaeologists, survey, Aerial surveys

              由首段可知,从B项的another,E项的their以及F项的however将它们排除(至于为什么排除,相信各位心里面都有答案了),只在C、D、G之间选。

                42空紧跟着A项,那么依然紧扣A中的关键词archaeological sites,F中首句即有most archaeological sites,继续略读,注意到F中的however、discovered恰与A中while、located、discovered对应,因此选出答案F。
                最后剩下B和D,注意B项的in another case与D项的in one case(这个也是高度匹配点,也可在更早确定DB紧随),明显D在B前,因此44、45依次选出答案D和B。
