Hi friends,
It is our battery issue status and delivery time update.
As you have read in our last update, we still have an unsolved battery issue in the finish and we would like to share more information about our progress now.
Background
A half year ago we investigated 23 potential flex/curved battery manufacturers and we have tested several sample batteries and we have found this type of battery that is the best for our project purpose. It is 0,4mm thin and it can be bent into the ring without creasing. We didn*t have problem with the "official size" batteries, but the manufacturer had to do some custom changes (narrow sealing) in the technology in short time in order to deliver our custom size and there were some risks of water (moisture) resistance. The Ring Clock is water resistant - watch in our last video - but it is not enough to keep this battery in good condition.
Battery options
1) Several investigations and tests were performed jointly with our battery manufacturer partner in the last few weeks. We hoped we could find a quick solution but finally we have to design a new version of the battery in order to improve the moisture resistance and this will unfortunately need 2 months extra time.
2) One of the other 22 potential manufacturers have succeed to develop a new curved battery that could be good for us. We will receive some samples in the next week and we will test it in the following month.
We hope that one of these two efforts brings a solution to our battery issue.
Estimated delivery time
We unfortunately have to move the estimated delivery time to November / December in order to solve the battery issue. We know that you are all looking forward to the arrival of the Ring Clock and we think that you are dissapointed because of the delay – we understand this and if you feel that you don*t have more endurance in our project and this delay is unacceptable, please let us know by emailing info@ringclock.net.
We think that in return for your endurance we would like to make a promise to you (contributors and preorder customers) which perhaps makes Ring Clock more valuable: We will start the retail delivery at least 6 months after you have received the Ring Clock, so in the first 6 months nobody else can wear it - Ring Clock will be exclusively yours.
