Unit 1
不知何故，我喜欢上了戏剧，在社团迎新会上，我报名参加了业余剧社。从长远来看，这个决定是不对的，我发现了里面的问题。戏剧与我的数学专业毫不相干，我花了大量的时间在排练上，结果期末考试几门功课不及格，这可把我给吓坏了。我赶在学校的成绩报告单寄到家之前上气不接下气地跑回家中，告诉父母这一情况，并向他们保证下学期一定退出这个社团。
For some reason, I waskeen on dramas. In the Freshers'Fair, I signed up for Amateur Dramatics. Itturned out a wrong decision in the long run.I detected the problems that dramahas nothing to do with my major mathematics. I spent too much time on rehearsalso that I failed to pass the final examinations for some courses. It frightenedthe life out of me. I was short of breath to arrive at home before the academicrecords reached to explain everything to my parents. I assured them that Iwould withdraw from the Amateur Dramatics next term.

Chinese food is verypopular in the world. Since most of the Chinese people prefer eating hot andfresh food, most of the Chinese dishes are prepared and cooked on the spot, forinstance, scrambled eggs with tomatoes, mushroom and chicken feet sou,etc. Youcan sometimes take in the delicious smells and watch and wait. Being full oflocal flavours and ingredients, the food releases hormones in the brain whichmake you happy and give a sense of well-being.

学校的学习并不意味着学生要被动地接受教师和课本传授的知识，学生需要自己找出问题的答案解决问题，而不是照搬任何思维模式或者只服从命令。应该鼓励学生独立思考，在吸收知识和创新观念上找到平衡点。为此，首先让学生制定学习计划，然后让他们把计划分成几个阶段、最后将每一阶段的结果与计划进行比较。此外，还应该让学生进行课堂展示、提出论点，而不只是使其刷刷地记笔记。然而，与此相对照的则是，目前在学校几乎没有人接受过独立思考的训练。看来要是学生不这样让自己陷在各种考试里不能自拔，要是他们不这样被大量的家庭作业压垮、这个世界上还会诞生更多的爱因斯坦(Einstein)和霍金(Hawking)。
Learning in school doesnot mean receiving knowledge passively from teachers or textbooks. Ratherthan following any thought pattern ordoing as they are told, students have to work out their own solutions to theproblems. They should be encouraged to think for themselves and strike a balancebetween taking in knowledge and creating new ideas of their own. To do so, thefirst step to take is to make some study plan by students themselves. Then theybreak up the plan into stages and compare the plan with the results of each stage in the end. What’smore, students should also be given chance to make presentation in class and presentarguments at length, rather than scribbling away at their notes. By contrast,however, hardly has anyone in schools been trained to think for themselves. Hadstudents not been bogged down by piles of exercises for homework,it seemed thatmore Einsteins and Hawkings would have appeared in the world.

There are as many ashundreds of millions of mobile phone subscribers in China. No matter where you go,you can make contact with your family and friends. In recent years, with thedevelopment of technology, the prices of mobile phones have been reduced. As amatter of fact, the cheaper mobile phones are, the more people will buy. Butmobile phones also have a negative impact on people's life. For instance,people sometimes are overdependent on mobile phones. Once they cannot contacton phone. or they forget to bring it with them when going out, they would makea fuss and feel uneasy. And even some misunderstanding is arosen among people.
