167 （世界之爱）
世界以痛吻我的灵魂，要求它回报以歌声。
THE world has kissed my soul with its pain, asking for its return in songs.
痛意味着爱、深爱，世界是爱人类的，有爱才有痛。吻是爱的表现。我既可以指作者本人，也可以指人类。灵魂比喻永恒的精神，即真善美。歌声比喻自由、快乐、美好。
世界深爱着人类，希望人类的灵魂能与世界融为一体，希望人类的灵魂实现真善美，从而得到自由快乐，人类灵魂实现了真善美就是对世界的回报。为什么以痛而不以爱来吻？因为有了痛才突出爱，痛让爱更深刻和永久。见第162首。
本诗的寓意是世界渴望人类能实现真善美，能与世界和谐统一。见第3首。
本诗的解读依据在第3、4首中有一部分。不应该把本诗译为“世界以痛吻我，要我报之以歌”，更不该解读为世界向人施加痛苦，如此解读完全背离泰戈尔的原意和世界观了。下面再列出泰戈尔其它作品的片断为本诗提供更多的解读依据。
