2014年4月,钱、杨二位先生曾就读的英国牛津大学艾克塞特学院(Exeter College)院长佛朗西斯·卡恩克劳斯(Frances Cairncross)女士来函称,在Exeter学院建立七百周年之际,该院以推选杰出校友为荣誉院士的方式纪念院庆,恭喜杨绛先生当选牛津大学艾克塞特学院荣誉院士,特此祝贺。

Exeter College has the privilege of electing distinguished persons to Honorary Fellowships of the College.I am pleased to tell you that at its Governing Body yesterday,the Fellowship elected you nem con to just such an Honorary Fellowship in recognition of the extraordinary contribution that you have made to the field of literature and literary scholarship.We also hope that it will mark our admiration for the work of your husband,our alumnus Qian Zhongshu,in whose company I believe you visited our College in the mid-1930s.
You will be pleased to hear that there are no duties attached to an Honorary Fellowship,but it dose bring some privileges.You are entitled to:
·Common Table(free lunch and dinner),
·Senior Common Room(SCR)membership,including the right to dine and to introduce gueste at High Table,
·'Lunching Rights'—the right to lunch in the Old Bursary,and
·To use an SCR guest room for yourself.
I realise that you may not be able to take much advantage of these privileges,but I hope you will do us the honour of accepting this token of our esteem and admiration.
