Hello, I am one of the new developers that have been working on the game through Matt’s guidance for the past 4 months. I have been chosen by the team to say something in support of Matt’s unfortunate news to step down from the project due to health and other issues. We are a professional group of developers who between us have spent 30 years in the games industry. All of us have worked on many different games including Studio and Indie Games. We were hired to build this game properly after Matt, unfortunately, had to re-evaluate the people he was bringing on. Matt has worked tirelessly in other work to help financially support all of us which we very much appreciate. From here though we are doing it as a group effort to get this game made.
We as a group have seen the personal attacks on Matt and this game over the past several months and we haven’t been very impressed by this. This kind of behavior should never be tolerated by anyone so we understand Matt’s frustration dealing with it for so long. We as a group will be doing things a lot differently. Below we have put in place a few things that we think will help give this project a new start.
1. We will be closing all social media for Police 1013 and re-open it at a time when we are ready to release the game on steam or another platform.
2. When the time comes, we will hand over all PR to a professional company that we have worked with in the past to re-establish the community that wants to be involved in the game’s success.
3. Discord will be closed.
4. Facebook will be closed.
5. We will not tolerate the kind of abuse Matt received during this process so we will be completely concentrating on the game and not on social commentary. We believe the game will speak for itself and don’t need the distraction of over-complicated social pressures.
6. We will release the game when we believe it’s completely ready. Not one day before. We want you to love the game day one. We will then be open to criticism for the game, not how it was made. We will then change things that we feel the community want changed and will do so in a way that benefits the game.
7. We will honor PBL donations when the game is completed. We will keep all information private and do not have any details except Name, Email and Tier Donated.
8. The decision not to release something playable in March is mainly due to Matt’s announcement. As a group, we’d be far better off releasing an almost completed game when it’s ready. We will not be rushed. Matt’s vision is amazing and we’re going to honor that vision and do it properly. I know it might be disappointing to some that you don’t get to see the great stuff we’ve been working on right now but after discussing everything with the team, we concluded that a properly managed release strategy was more important for the game’s success in the future.
9. We do have the right contacts between us to see this project published and will work closely with these contacts in due time when we’re all satisfied with the build.
Lastly, we want to thank Matt for his incredible work to date, his professionalism, and his kindness to allow a new team to take over. This is refreshing. We also want to thank Matt for generously gifting the team with all the original software and other things purchased over the years to the team that he has no use for anymore. No models that were made by any old developer will be re-used by us as we have strict requirements for our asset production and therefore have deleted models made by any other developer except for Matt’s which were completed as per industry standards. Again, Matt has kindly gifted these models to us.
We all believe in this project and will continue to build upon Matt’s original idea and concepts. We as a group decided to also cut Matt in on the financial success of this game once it has released. Instead, Matt has generously asked us to donate any proceeds that were to go to him to go to Police Charities around the world, which we will honor. D
On a more personal note, we feel it is important to make it clear that we have been fully briefed on all the history of this project. Matt’s commitment to this project was incredible. He has done an amazing job to get the game to this point with all the negative things he’s dealt with. For him to then put his own money toward us shows his commitment to the completion of this project. Matt’s greatest mistake throughout this game’s history has been the people he has brought on. Non-committed, untrustworthy and incompetent people who just weren’t professional enough to handle such a big project. This happens all the time in our industry and we’ve seen it over and over. We came on board this project because Matt was nothing like that. He was highly driven, very professional and skilled in many fields, which is such a pity because his skill level deserved so much more respect than he received. If he had the right people in the first place that weren’t in it for all the wrong reasons, he would have been so much better off. Now, he has handed the responsibility to our team. We are very grateful for the opportunity and will do our best to keep his dream alive.
We look forward to bringing you all an amazing game from the vision of Matt himself. It’s a game that we know people will want to play. When the game is ready for release, you’ll hear from us then. At no stage will we be making social or public comment on any release strategies as that just causes unjustified pressure on the team. We will take whatever time we need to complete the task and need you all to understand that we have the best interests of the game as our priority.
Good Luck Matt during this hard time. We wish you the best of luck and look forward to hearing of a good outcome with your current situation. If you ever want to come back to the industry, we’d certainly welcome you into our humble little group of Professionals. You’d be a huge asset. Finally, Matt, as a group, we look forward to seeing you succeed in anything you choose to do in the future!!! Get healthy, get strong and then get busy.
