Similarly, Europe being a militaristic society is a long-term issue caused by Imperialism, creating Jingoism thus tension and suspicion between countries, which cannot be completely ascribed to the alliance systems. According to Lenin in 1916, the Great War is an imperialistic war, to re-divide the territories in Europe. Lenin pointed out the history of imperialism in Europe, due to the belief of racism, and that the Aryan race is helping the “inferior” to learn civilisation, in order to acquire colonies, a strong army is needed, and therefore, Europe has a tradition of being militaristic. Moreover, suspicion and stereotype between European countries were largely caused due to colonial conflicts, not the alliance system. Britain had a long-term conflict with France over Egypt since the creation of the Suez Canal in 1869, the Fashoda crisis in 1898 almost lead to war. Explaining that the Anglo-French Entente in 1904 was mainly aimed at resolving colonial tensions, not necessarily formed for the need of war time allies. 
The alliance system was not to be blamed, as the European did not necessarily have to follow the alliances, but simply using them as a casusa belli. Firstly, the Triple Entente is not a military alliance, although Britain France signed the Anglo-French Naval Treaty in 1912, dividing the sea into spheres of responsibility, Britain did not necessarily have to go to war with Germany, as Germany did not wish to attack France via the North Sea. However, it is Britain’s own interest to minimize the German influence in the North Sea which is the base of the British Royal fleet, and therefore wishes to stop Germany from taking over France by joining the Great War on France’s side. 
On the country, other factors more directly cause the Great War than the alliance systems.
