Bruno Senna: “I drove on two occasions in Turkey. This experience gave me a fairly reasonable idea of the difficulties. It will be a tough weekend with an interesting combination of bumps and high-speed corners that will make it challenging for our car. But this level of difficulty makes it interesting and will go for it as we need to make another good two-car finish to improve our teams championship classification”.

      Senna backs split from Dallara
      May 28th 2010, 09:35 GMT
Bruno Senna believes HRT is better placed to make progress with its car now that it is fully in control of development.
The team announced earlier this week that it was ending its collaboration with Dallara, which helped build its first F1 car after being signed up as part of the original Campos Grand Prix project.
And although the severing of the Dallara ties now means HRT's technical staff is in charge of producing parts and developing the chassis itself, Senna thinks it will ultimately be a benefit for the future.
"The development side of the project is now in our hands," said Senna in Turkey. "Of course it could have been earlier if everything could have been solved then, and it would have been a great benefit for us in terms of performance.
"But now at least we have the tools to start working on the car and hopefully get some performance updates."
Senna, who sat out FP1 in Turkey in favour of Sakon Yamamoto, thinks it will take a few more races before the team is able to make big steps with the car however.
"This weekend is going to be less difficult than Monaco, because the situation is a bit more easy now," he said. "We have more spare parts, and everything is taking a different shape - but it will still be quite hard.
"We have no updates for the car and now the two Virgins have upgraded cars and a few places on this track, like Turn 8, they are going to be quite a bit challenge for us with the stability issues that we still have. We have to work quite hard to keep the gap the same to the other teams this weekend and see if we can find small improvements for the next few races."
When asked when he expected an updated car, Senna said: "We believe that for Silverstone it will be a great, great push - and only if everything goes really well. I think more realistic to expect for the last race before the summer break, which is Germany."

Hispania Racing - Turkish GP Friday Practice
        May 28th
Hispania Racing, HRT F1 Team, set for a positive performance for the 2010 Formula 1™ Turkish Grand Prix.
        10.00 – 11.30 / FORMULA ONE PRACTICE SESSION 1
        Karun Chandhok / F110-01 #20 / 21st (13 laps) / 1.34.876
        Sakon Yamamoto / F110-02 #21 / 24th (26 laps) / 1.36.137
        ---
        14.00 – 15.30 / FORMULA ONE PRACTICE SESSION 2
        Bruno Senna / F110-02 #21 / 23rd (35 laps) / 1.33.420
        Karun Chandhok / F110-01 #20 / 24th (25 laps) / 1.33.740
Following the announcement at the Chinese Grand Prix that Japanese driver Sakon Yamamoto would join the Hispania Racing, HRT F1 Team, Yamamoto was in action for the first time today in free practice for the Turkish Grand Prix as the team’s reserve race and test driver. Just as in Barcelona, Hispania Racing, HRT F1 Team is working with three drivers over both Friday practice sessions with Sakon Yamamoto joining race drivers Karun Chandhok and Bruno Senna. Yamamoto had a trouble-free session covering 26 laps at the wheel of the car in the first practice session today. Karun Chandhok completed 13 laps.
In the second 90-minute afternoon free practice session, in preparation for Sunday’s race, Bruno Senna took over from Yamamoto and covered 35 laps while Chandhok added a further 25 to the team’s tally.
Dr. Colin Kolles, Team Principal, stated: “Today we focused on our usual race preparation. Sakon had to get used to handling a Formula 1™ car after three years of absence from the Formula 1™ World Championship, but he put in an impressive performance and did a very good job, especially around the corners of the circuit. Unfortunately, Karun Chandhok had a problem with a car sensor which required a bit of work, so it was not possible for him to complete his full program during the morning’s free practice session. However, we found the source of the issues and are currently working to fix this problem. I am sure the team will pull through as usual and correct the problems with the set-up.”
Karun Chandhok commented: “It was a bit of a tough day for me. We had some mechanical issues in FP1 which cost track time and this afternoon we evaluated some modifications on the brake system on my car. I had some issues on the option tyre runs at the end which we have to look into overnight but thus far we seem to be at a similar level as Barcelona relative to Lotus. It was a bit abnormal to do my best time on the prime tyre but I just struggled for rear end grip on the options.”
Bruno Senna commented: “Today was okay / but it was a bit different to be a spectator like I was in the morning session as Sakon was driving my car. In the afternoon session, I came back to my duties. / We are working hard and tried to improve car balance on the track to get the car a little bit better for tomorrow. I completed 35 laps wit / no major issues. I was running high fuel during the session.”
Sakon Yamamoto commented: “Today was a fantastic day! I am very happy to be back behind the wheel of a Formula 1™ car and its great to be part of a team such as Hispania Racing, HRT F1 Team. Everything went quite well and I managed to complete a full 26 laps of the Istanbul Park circuit. We made some good progress and are already working to improve the performance so we can achieve even better lap times.”

Senna hoping to catch established pack
              29 May 2010
Now that Hispania has split with car builder Dallara, Bruno Senna hopes that the Murcia-based squad can aim to eventually catch Formula 1's better-known teams in the not-so-distant future. The Brazilian produced a respectable qualifying lap to beat Lucas di Grassi's Virgin car on Saturday.
Having moved ahead of di Grassi, fellow Brazilian Senna will set off from 22nd on Sunday, two places ahead of team-mate Karun Chandhok, and believes that HRT is now in a better shape than previously, having received no car updates from Dallara since the season began.
"It was a good qualifying, we've been working on car setup this weekend and finally the car is giving some confidence," Senna told the BBC. "We pushed hard, the car was there and we did a good lap time."
Bruno also gave his support for the detail that the José Ramón Carabante-owned team is now operating autonomously.
"At the moment the conditions are that we are on our own at the moment and I think it's a good thing for us," he continued. "We're independent and I hope in the future that we can start fighting with the Lotuses and, if we're really optimistic, we can start fighting the back of the other teams.
"The development programme is being carried out by (Technical Director) Geoff Willis, who everybody knows is a very capable person, but the fact is that the relationship was not a way of going forward, so if we can go forward by doing this it's the way to go."

                Bruno Senna - Hispania-Cosworth
                Practice: - / 23rd / 22nd
                Total practice laps: 57
                Qualifying: 22nd
                Pit stop laps: 20
Result: retired, fuel pressure, 46 laps
Summary: Sits out first practice so Hispania can get tester Sakon Yamanoto’s verdict on the evil-handling F110 chassis, but Senna returns from second practice and goes on to enjoy a positive weekend – outqualifying a Virgin on merit for the first time [di Grassi] and then putting up a strong fight against Timo Glock before fuel pressure problems strike.

Senna was only 0.522 seconds slower than Glock in qualifying at Istanbul. In Spain two races ago, the fastest Hispania - that of the Brazilian's team-mate Karun Chandhok - was 1.275secs slower than the German.
Senna said that the improvement was explained by a new diffuser, or floor, that was fitted to the car for the Monaco Grand Prix, the race after Spain.
Hispania have split from Dallara, which designed and built their car
"Since Monaco, when we changed the floor, it is giving me the confidence to push hard and we did a good lap time," he said.
The progress comes after the team confirmed in the run-up to this weekend's race that they had split from their car builder, the Italian manufacturer Dallara.

The decision came after Dallara failed to carry out any development work on the car.
Hispania will now aim to upgrade the car themselves under the guidance of former Williams, BAR and Red Bull designer Geoff Willis.
Senna said: "We are independent on development and it is a good thing for us. Everybody knows Geoff Willis is a very capable person. If we do some good development we can fight with the other teams."
Willis said he was keeping his expectations for the team realistic.
