在阅读英文报刊时有些词无论如何感觉对应不上词典释义怎么办？

比如China daily上一篇报导中的这样一句：Blondeis one of the year's most hotly anticipated films – and as one of its most controversial. Based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates, it's a sprawling biopic of Marilyn Monroe (Ana de Armas), but it mixes fact and fiction.
其中sprawling这个词的中文释义是“蔓延的，杂乱无章的。伸开四肢的躺、坐、倒，杂乱无序的拓展”，我感觉无论哪个意思来修饰biopic都不合适...于是又查了英英词典，但仍然觉得都不适用于biopic。
这种情况以前也遇到过几次，请问一般怎么样去处理这些词？
