About us IKMF - International krav maga
federation
The need for an international Krav Maga body came about in the early 1990's, as the system began to spread outside of Israel. In early 1996 Imi consented to and fully supported the formation of the International Krav Maga Federation - the IKMF. It was founded by Avi Moyal, Eyal Yanilov, Gabi Noah, Eli Ben-Ami and several other respected and highly ranked instructors. From that time on until he died , Imi authorized all Expert and Master Diplomas, grades and levels as issued by the IKMF. With Imi's heavy involvement, this new organization quickly emerged as the leading and true source of Krav Maga around the world.
Since forming in 1996, the IKMF has grown to be the largest and most professional Krav Maga organization in the world! The IKMF operates successfully in Israel, and all over the world Generally each country with an active IKMF branch has local Director and instructors with different grades, levels, and qualifications. The local director is responsible for the growth of both Krav Maga as a system and the growth of their local IKMF branch.
IMI The Founder of krav maga and the father of I.K.M.F

Imrich ("Imi") Sde-Or (Lichtenfeld) was born on May 26, 1910, to a Hungarian Jewish family in Budapest in the Austro-Hungarian Empire . He grew up in Bratislava, Slovakia's capital, with a father who provided him quite an unusual childhood. Samuel Lichtenfeld, his father, was a chief inspector on the Bratislava police force and a former circus acrobat.
With his father's encouragement, Imi engaged in a wide range of sports, such as swimming, boxing, wrestling and gymnastics. He trained at a Gymnasium owned by his father, who taught self-defense. Imi excelled in wrestling both as contestant an as trainer, Also winning several awards in these fields.
In the mid thirties, Fascist and anti-Semitic groups appeared in Bratislava, threatening to harm the city's Jewish community there. Imi led a group of former boxers and wrestlers to defend his Jewish neighborhood against the fascist gangs. This group attempted to block the anti-Semitic gangs from entering the Jewish quarter. Encountering as many "street fights" as he did, Imi quickly realized that sport had little in common with real combat and began developing a system of techniques for practical self-defense in life threatening situations.
In 1940 Imi fled the Nazi occupation of his homeland, and boarded the last immigrant ship that succeeded in escaping the Nazis' clutches. He boarded the vessel "Pencho", which shipwrecked on the Greek Dodecanese Islands, and arrived to Palestine in 1942.
At his arrival, Israel's early leaders recognized Imi's fighting abilities and in 1944 he began training fighters in his areas of expertise: physical fitness, swimming, wrestling, use of the knife, and defenses against knife attacks. During this period, Imi trained several elite units of the Hagana and Palmach (striking force of the Hagana and forerunner of the special units of the IDF), including the Pal-Yam, as well as groups of police officers. After the establishment of Israel in 1948 and the formation of the IDF he became Chief Instructor for Physical Fitness and Krav Maga at the IDF School of Combat Fitness. Imi served in the IDF for about 20 years, during which time he developed and refined his unique method for self-defense and hand-to-hand combat.

In 1964, Imi retired from the Israeli military, and began adapting and modifying Krav-Maga to civilian needs. The method was formulated to suit everyone - men and women, boy or girl, who might need it to save their life or survive an attack while sustaining minimal harm, whatever the background of the attack - criminal, nationalistic, or other. To disseminate his method, Imi established two training centers, one in Tel Aviv and the other in Natanya. He trained teams of krav maga instructors, who were accredited by him and the Israeli Ministry of Education. He also created the Israeli Krav Maga Association in 1978.
Even during his last years, Imi continued to personally supervise the training of those who have attained high ranks in Krav-Maga, and to spend time with the instructors in Israel and abroad. Imi monitored the trainees' progress and achievements, captivating them with his personality and imparting them with his knowledge and unique personality.
Imi, a most valued teacher and fighter, passed away on the 9th of January 1998, at the age of 88.
Avi Moyal IKMF Chairman and Head Instructor

Avi Moyal was born in 1966 and has been studying Krav Maga since childhood. He soon demonstrated such proficiency that his instructors allowed him to teach at a very early age. In fact, Avi has been teaching Krav Maga for the past 30 years! In 1985 Avi Moyal received his "Expert degree" in Krav Maga and also was enlisted to the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) Marines. Avi completed his Officers training with excellence, and served as Platoon Commander in a Terror Demolition Unit. He acquired many combat hours and experience while commanding subordinates on special operations in Lebanon including highly specialized missions behind enemy lines with various SWAT units. During his service he also provided VIP protection for a high ranking IDF General and an intelligence officer. After active duty, Avi served as a Reserves Platoon Commander in a special operations unit. Avi Moyal graduated all trainers' course, including the senior trainer's course, in the Wingate Institute. He later conducted instructor’s courses in the Wingate institute for 7 years, and today he is recognized as one of the highest ranking Krav Maga Masters in the world. Avi also possesses a business degree from respected Israeli college. Among Avi’s instructors were Eli Avigzar RIP and of course Imi Lichtenfeld RIP. As a matter of record, Avi was Imi’s direct and most trusted student. Their close relations led Avi to head as Chairman of the Aguda (the very first Krav Maga organization). Currently, Avi serves as the Chairman of the International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF) where he leads the organization in preserving the vision of Master Imi Lichtenfeld, the founder and creator of Krav Maga. Additionally, Avi is considered as the leading instructor and professional authority to the governmental sector, also serving as Advisor to the Israeli Minister of Sport and Education in the area of Krav Maga. Among his many qualifications he conducts lessons to men, women & children in all Israeli sectors, private and commercial. As a Krav Maga Master, Avi was chosen by the Israeli government to develop specific techniques and teaching programs for Women’s Self Defense, Car Rage Defense and Children’s Self Defense. Avi has also published a booklet about Krav Maga for grade school pupils, one of his areas of expertise. It is distributed throughout Israel, and it will soon be translated and published abroad. Avi Moyal continues to instruct various military units and security organizations world wide as he has done for the last 20 years. One of the things that make Avi such a renowned and respected authority in the world of Krav Maga is his vast “real world” experience. As previously stated, He is the only IKMF board member with proven IDF combat experience as an officer, and has also provided VIP protection in the civilian arena for world famous entertainment personalities such as Michael Jackson. Today, Avi Moyal divides his time between his vocation to spread the art of Krav Maga to various countries and organizations, his many Israeli students and his family. Special Projects:
