In this update we want to reveal a bit more about the story of Rusty Lake Paradise. It was back in March, when we came up with the idea for this project. Right from the start we were excited about creating an island which is cursed by plagues. Also after The Cave we really wanted to create a different narrative again, like Roots and Hotel.
The main story plot of the game is the 10 plagues, a variation of the ten biblical plagues of Egypt, which curses the island and its inhabitants after the main character’s mother mysteriously dies. The player must interact with the family members around the island and partake in rituals in order to stop the plagues. Unfortunately we can’t reveil more info about the family, you will find out yourself. The game will take place before Roots.
In the previous development update we revealed more info about the different gameplay. The last couple of months we showcased on as many gaming conferences as possible (Indigo, Gamescom, PAX and Tokyo Game Show), we do this to not only promote our work but also to play test the new gameplay and levels we already made. We wanted to be 100% sure this new gameplay would fit. And we are now! This weekend in Japan it became more clear that our game doesn’t have a language barrier and everyone could play Paradise easily.
Unfortunately the process of creating the story and finetuning the new gameplay caused a delay in development. We changed directions a couple of times and we had to redo a lot of stuff. There is also VERY exciting “next level” (but secret) stuff going on here at Rusty Lake, which also takes some time from us.
For all the people asking when the game comes out: we are aiming to finish all the levels within the next month and then we expect to need 2-3 weeks to test the final build. The game is done when its done 🙂
